Another electric vehicle employed by NSW Police


A new recruit has joined Nepean Police – but has not yet received training in Goulburn.

On June 20, one Hyundai Ioniq 6 The electric sedan joins the fleet of Nepean Police Area Command, having been loaned to law enforcement by the automaker.

It will be used by the Nepean Police Crime Prevention Unit to engage with the community, rather than carry out actual day-to-day policing duties.

This is not the first electric vehicle to join the Australian police department.

Assistant Commissioner Vanderbyl said: “I think it’s inevitable, I think we see the pace of electric vehicle adoption really accelerating in the wider community and there are good reasons for that , and I think we are no different.”

“We also had operational issues that we had to address, but I think we also really demonstrated some of the technology earlier with hybrid and plug-in hybrid.”
