Anime Chainsaw Man is an admirable adaptation of Manga

Sometimes, anime adaptations can be hit or miss. Even with a good director, animation studio, and team involved, it may not deliver the same emotion as the novel or manga that inspired it. (Similarly, you may stumble across an anime series that is much better than the original series that created it.) Good luck with Chainsaw Man anime created by MAPPA, it looks like we’re seeing an excellent adaptation of the manga.

Editor’s Note: There are minor errors in the first three volumes of Chainsaw Man anime and manga episodes below.

There are several reasons why this is so obvious and it has a lot to do with how Chainsaw Man The manga story has continued and the anime is handling things. First, we found that MAPPA took care when it came to understanding the importance of character development. Although Denji seems simple, with his desire to go with a girl and eat some delicious meals, he always has a feeling of earnestness. Only one True love between him and the demon Pochita. And, for the credit of the studio and everyone involved in the creation of the show, it’s in no hurry to develop the necessary. The entire first volume focuses on Denji’s origins and relationship with Pochita. Despite our time with the “mascot” of the short series, we see the importance and value of the relationship between the two characters. It constantly shows how important they are to each other. We understand the sacrifices made.

That first episode, as well as moments after three, also show that the anime won’t shy away from the series’ gruesome visceral battle. When Denji turned into Chainsaw Man for the first time, blood was everywhere. The bodies are flying. He acrobats all over his body to the point of becoming this artistic dance. When Denji takes down a demon in the second episode, we see the ax cut through it and the head fall to the floor. When Power falls on Sea Cucumber as the second episode ends, there’s an explosion of various body water and she’s just getting excited from being drenched in it.

But perhaps the biggest indicator shows Chainsaw Man anime is capturing the tone of manga coming from the way it captures more lighthearted and humorous moments. The second volume is a great example of this. Once Aki and Denji need to start living together, a string of incredible moments continues. We watched as Aki discovered how “close” Denji and Ms. Makima had become. We see Denji leave this disgusting piece of toast with all the condiments and jams in the cupboard, with the evidence left behind. Aki has to deal with Denji’s off-topic “voice”. As the episode begins, we’ll see how their conflicting personalities create Strange couple situation, but the fact that Aki gradually, continuously loses her mind when she realizes her nightmare co-worker has become the inevitable roommate and faithful mate is the golden comedy. MAPPA captures it perfectly.

The anime adaptation also did a great job of highlighting the dynamics between the characters, despite the limitation on the amount of time they get. For example, we can clearly see Denji’s despair, his goofiness, his joy at having small luxuries that he never had before, and how he makes the most of his life. enjoy his new abilities as he uses them. Aki’s seriousness and regret come through, but we also feel his youth as we witness his disgust and distrust of Denji’s behavior. Power’s unbridled nature comes through, even in her brief moments so far. Above all, however, we have Miss Makima’s steady, gentle, calm voice above all of them, pampering everyone and keeping them in line. It’s still early days, but MAPPA and the team have created a solid foundation.

It really seems like Chainsaw Man anime is being set for greatness. With MAPPA and the team’s efforts so far, it seems like they’ve really understood the manga and its importance. It gives me hope that we will see all the moments that stick with us. Terrible demons. Attempts to be a super smart, Nobel Prize-winning Prime Minister. Relationships. The parts that break your heart. It’s early days, but what we have so far is a sign of good times ahead.

The Chainsaw Man anime is streaming now Crunchyroll, and the manga can be found through Viz Media. New chapters of manga will be available for free for a while on Viz’s page.
