Andy recalls uncomfortable moment with Oprah
Entertainment Tonight reports that Andy Cohen is celebrating the 15th anniversary of his Bravo series, ‘Watch What Happens Live.’ The late-night live interactive show features guests from entertainment, politics and pop culture.
To mark this milestone, Cohen is reflecting on the ups and downs of his career. Although the show has produced many unforgettable moments, one of the most memorable appearances was by Oprah Winfrey in 2013.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Andy expressed the importance of having Oprah on the show.
“This is a big moment for me and for the show. I’m a fan of Oprah,” Andy explained.
However, when speaking with PEOPLE, Andy explained that everything was going well until he decided to ask Oprah if she had been “dipping into her pond.”
“It meant a lot to me that Oprah Winfrey was doing this show. It was great and I turned around and asked her if she had ever had sex with a woman. I mean, couldn’t I just leave it alone?”
Andy further explained that that moment and question is one of the few things he regrets, even though it’s a question he often asks guests.
During the 2013 interview, Oprah quickly responded to Andy’s question with a direct answer.
“No, no, I haven’t. Thank you.”
According to Entertainment Tonight, the talk show host went on to reveal more details about his interview with Oprah, mentioning that he heard it from her best friend. King Gayle after that.
“That weekend, Gayle King told me that Oprah didn’t know what I meant by the woman’s pond. I think I explained it pretty well there, but listen, I was so grateful that Oprah did it and I still am. I think it’s still my favorite episode.”
Andy talks about success and favorite guests of ‘WWHL’
Not only did Andy share his most embarrassing moment on ‘Watch What Happens Live’, he also revealed his favorite guests, including Patti LuPone.
The producer also explained that he believes ‘Watch What Happens Live’ has maintained its success because of its spontaneity and authenticity.
“The secret to the success of ‘See what happens live, I think it’s spontaneous, authentic, fun, humorous, I go there and people never know what’s going to happen. People are caught off guard here. It’s also live, we perform at night and serve alcohol,” Cohen explains.
