American Airlines has made some welcome investments in its in-flight service in recent months, and more are on the way.
Starting October 12, the Fort Worth-based airline will be rolling out a new wellness menu for its premium cabin flyers, a spokesperson for the airline told TPG.
These healthy options include breakfast frittatas in the morning and a bowl of cereal and harvest served with lunch and dinner. Wellness Meals created in partnership with the James Beard Foundation, America’s Culinary Partneralong with award-winning nutritionist Ellie Krieger.

In addition to the selections mentioned above that will join the usual selection rotation for in-flight meals, American will also be adding health-focused meals to its pre-order menu. These include:
- Harvest vegetables and cereal bowls.
- Golden roast chicken.
- Mushrooms and asparagus frittata.
- Embedded duo.
- Note that this dip is an appetizer that will be provided with the pre-ordered wellness dish.
You’ll find these new options on a number of domestic, intercontinental and international flights. According to the spokesperson, if customers like these items, American Airlines will continue to serve them in the near future.
Along with the launch of healthier meals, American will also reintroduce the reservation-only program on October 12. While American already has offers a pre-order option for most flights, the menu select is identical to the menu that will be served during the flight.
During the pandemic, pre-ordering the item you desire only guarantees that it will be available to you on your flight.
However, as of October 12, you’ll soon see new options on the menu that will be exclusive to those who pre-order. This is essentially a compact version of Singapore’s famous “book chef” serviceoffers customers flying premium cabins a range of additional options that are only available upon pre-order.
While you won’t find a Thermidor lobster On American’s pre-order menu, you’ll find new options that might be interesting to you, especially if you’re a frequent flyer. In addition to the new wellness options mentioned above, I expect to see softer options, such as the charcuterie and fruit and cheese platter, return to the pre-order menu.
Adding wellness meals and bringing back a pre-order-only menu are the latest upgrades to American’s onboard dining service. The carrier is one of the first Bringing hot meals to the first class in the countryand many of the food options were tastier and better presented than they were before the pandemic.
It is hoped that this investment continues to expand into other areas of the airline’s operations, including economy class and Admiral’s Clubs nationwide.
