Alec Baldwin Case Dismissed: NPR
This is a developing story.
Santa Fe Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer has dismissed actor Alec Baldwin’s manslaughter lawsuit.
Baldwin’s attorneys filed a last-minute motion to dismiss the case, arguing that the state had failed to disclose what could have been crucial evidence, something prosecutors have denied. Judge Sommer dismissed the jury earlier today and this afternoon, agreeing that this crucial evidence was enough to end the trial.
“The court has no way to correct this mistake,” Sommer said in his ruling this afternoon.
“The State has repeatedly represented to the defense and the court that it has complied with all of its discovery obligations,” the judge said.
The case was dismissed. with prejudicemeaning the case can no longer be brought back to Baldwin for trial.
Baldwin and his family broke down in tears in court.
