Alaska cruises start at $38 a day



It’s time to strike a deal for Alaska cruises if you’re willing to travel on short notice.

Some of the world’s greatest cruise lines – including Princess Cruise, Netherlands USA, Norwegian Cruise Line And Royal Caribbean — recently offered unsold cabins on upcoming Alaska trips for as low as $38 a day.

Some of the lowest priced deals in absolute terms come from Princess. As of Tuesday, the line is showing a five-night trip to Alaska from Vancouver, British Columbia, for just $249 — or about $50 a day.

The “Alaska Sampler” vessel on the Grand Princess service has a capacity of 2,600 passengers including calls at Juneau and Ketchikan in Alaska. It starts May 1 — just 19 days from now.

Royal Caribbean on Tuesday marketed a seven-night Alaska cruise scheduled for May 26 for even less on a per-day basis. A one-way trip from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver starts at $269 — or about $38 a day.

The last-minute deals come as cruise lines look to fill unsold cabins for the first phase of the Alaska cruise season, which kicks off this month. The Alaska tourist season usually runs from late April to early May and lasts until fall.

  • The seven-night cruise out of Vancouver aboard the Dutch train Volendam departs May 17. Fares start at $309 — or about $44 a day.
  • The seven-night cruise from Vancouver to Seward aboard the Norwegian Spirit departs May 17. Fares start at $349 — or about $50 a day.
  • The seven-night trip from Whittier, Alaska, to Vancouver on the Grand Princess departs May 13. Fares start at $329 — or about $47 a day.
  • The seven-night cruise from Whittier to Vancouver aboard the Sapphire Princess departs May 24. Fares start at $329 — or about $47 a day.
  • The seven-night cruise from Seward to Vancouver on Celebrity Millennium departs May 19. Fares start at $299 — or about $43 a day

Princess on Tuesday is also offering a four-night Alaska Sampler ride from Vancouver scheduled for September 26 for just $228 — the lowest price for any Alaska trip currently on sale on Tuesday. 2023. The voyage will take place on the line’s Crown Princess.

The trips above typically include stops in the towns of Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway in southeastern Alaska, as well as a visit to at least one glacier. Some bring to visit Glacier vịnh Bay National Park.

Fine print on Alaska travel deals

It is worth noting that the deeply discounted fares above only apply to interior compartments without windows. These are the lowest class cabins on each ship. Sometimes, you’ll pay significantly more for a room with an ocean view or a cabin with a balcony.

For instance, the ocean-view cabins (cabins with windows) on the Grand Princess sailing from Whittier to Vancouver departing May 13 were listed on Tuesday on the Princess website for $599. That’s a whopping $270 more than a cabin with no windows. The balcony cabins on the boat are listed for $1,132 – three times the amount of an interior cabin.

All fares are also per person prices and are based on two people staying in the cabin. They are not available to solo travelers.

Also, while prices include accommodation, meals and entertainment, they do not include taxes and port charges. Those required additions will add $164 to $335 to the cost of the voyages mentioned above, depending on the ports the vessel visits.

Cruise lines often advertise their fares excluding taxes and port charges, and then add these costs to the final bill at checkout.
