When a tornado flattened her home in Mayfield, Kansas, lucky Molly Hughes was at work, which saved her from the tornado’s devastation.
But Molly’s dog Sally isn’t so lucky. When the young woman worked shifts at a nearby Waffle House, her loyal friend was waiting for her at home, which was right in the path of deadly tornadoes.
“My first thought was, ‘I have to go see my dog,'” Molly said Local WPSD 6. “I kept thinking ‘I have to get my dog out’.
The young woman dodges trees and telephone polls as she runs home to her home, only to find her home has been “completely destroyed” in the storm. But Molly doesn’t care about her house. All she wants is the beloved dog she left in the house.
“When I got here, I lost it because the house was gone, I thought the dog was gone,” Molly tell the station. “I just started shouting her name.”
But when Molly gave birth to her dog, something surprising happened. Sally ran to meet her distraught self at the front door, wagging her tail reassuringly.
“She met me unharmed at the front door”, the dog’s owner speak, “Like I’m here, I’m still here, Mom, it’s okay.”
No one knows how Sally survived the storm, even as the tornado flattened their house – and much of this part of town. But many people and pets are not so fortunate, which is why GreaterGood is raising money to help other animals and those affected by these deadly storms.
