Adam Azim-Ohara Davies will be in London on October 19

ADAM AZIM will face his biggest test of his abilities on October 19 when he takes on the experienced Ohara Davies.

The two super lightweights will take on Boxer at the Copper Box in London, where Azim will look to extend his unbeaten record and Davies will hope to redeem himself after a disastrous last time out.

Davies, who has shared the ring with Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall, was stopped in one round by Venezuelan veteran Ismael Barroso in January. His debut for new promoters Golden Boy in Las Vegas could not have been worse and after seeing a mandatory world title fight with Rolando Romero slip away in 2023 (due to Romero’s injury), losing to Barroso in an interim title fight was a shame.

Azim has only fought 11 times in his career but has won the European 140lb title in 10 of his fightsth opened against Franck Petitjean before successfully defending against Enock Poulsen in February. The 22-year-old has now gone up a level against the powerful Davies, who cannot match Azim for pace but still possesses power that Azim has never encountered.

Earlier this year, Azim was tasked with defending his European title against Sheffield’s Dalton Smith but decided to pull out rather than make a second defence of the title.

Fans will also be wondering why Azim didn’t face Harlem Eubank after the pair met for the Fabio Wardley-Frazer Clarke fight in March. While nothing official has been announced, it’s clear Boxxer has every reason to bring the two together to drum up interest in a fight that’s currently off the radar.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring and continuing to do what I do best,” Azim said ahead of the Davies fight.

“It was an honour to win and defend my European title but now I am ready for my next challenge. I have known Ohara Davies for many years. I respect him and what he has achieved in the sport but when we meet in the ring, he is just another opponent and another step on my journey to the top. He is a good fighter. I think our styles will make for an exciting fight but there will only be one outcome. I am ready to make a statement and show everyone that I am ready for the biggest names in this division.”

“I’m really looking forward to this match,” said Davies.

“I like Adam Azim. I have known him since he was very young and it is amazing to see his success so far in boxing. I have followed him in the amateurs and I have always respected him. But he is not a kid anymore. He has matured into a man with great potential. And that is why it is a shame that I have to hand him his first defeat. No needles, no hatred, I want us to go back to our families happy and healthy after the fight. But this is where things change for him. I am sorry Adam. This is where it ends.”
