A teacher in Massachusetts held a fake slave auction


A Massachusetts teacher was placed on leave after staging a fake slave auction and using the N-word.

CNN reported that the incident occurred in the 5th grade of Margaret Neary elementary school.

Teacher conducts fake slave auction in classroom

Parents were notified by letter that a teacher had organized one “impromptu fake slave auction” in January. The correspondence explains that the teacher was discussing the Transatlantic Slave Trade when she asked “two children sitting in front of the room, people of color, standing.”

Teacher then “discuss physical attributes (i.e. teeth and strength) of students playing the role of slaves.

This shocking incident was reported to Gregory Martineau, superintendent of Northborough and Southborough Public Schools, a school district located half an hour from Boston. Martineau stated that the teacher’s actions violated the district’s values ​​and “unacceptable.”

Teachers use the N-word

Additionally, in April, the same teacher used the N-word while reading a book. The supervisor said: “It was then brought to the District’s attention that the ‘N-word’ did not appear in the book.”

Martineau stated, “Staff or students should not say inhumane words such as defamation. Using such words can harm students and negatively impact open discussion on a particular topic.”
