Your brain is great at processing colors and figuring out how different light sources affect their rendering, and to put it simply, cameras are not skilled at this. Therefore, we need to give the camera a reference point for the scene, which is where white balance comes into play. If you are shooting JPEG images, it is important that you set the white balance properly beforehand, as your image quality will suffer if you try to adjust it significantly during post-processing, but luckily, if you take raw photos, there is rarely any penalty. Set your camera to auto white balance and adjust it during the editing process. That being said, it’s still a good practice to get it as close as possible in-camera.
