August Rain Wins British Columbia Derby
Following his win in the Canadian Derby (G3), August rain earned his second consecutive graded win by winning the $125,000 Canadian British Columbia Derby (G3) on September 14 at Hastings Racecourse.
Raised in British Columbia by owner Peter Redekop, the 3-year-old dog Sungold The gelding was offered at odds of 0.85-1. He and rider Amadeo Perez were always in good position. They stuck to the early pace in the 1 1/8-mile dirt race, then turned four wide turns to finish and win by 1 1/4 lengths.
Money shot finished second, and another 3 1/4 lengths away J Dutton in third place. Final time on the muddy track was 1:51.20.
Trained by Barbara Heads, August Rain won for the seventh time in 11 career starts.
