2024 Procore Championship Scores: David Lipsky Shoots 65 to Take Early Lead in FedEx Cup Fall Opener

NAPA, Calif. (AP) — David Lipsky shot a 7-under-par 65 on Thursday at Silverado Country Club to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the 2024 Procore Championship.

Winless in 104 events since joining the PGA Tour in 2022, Lipsky started with the front-rowers and had eight birdies with one bogey to kick off the FedEx Cup Fall Series at the picturesque course in the heart of the Napa Valley wine country.

Patton Kizzire and Mark Hubbard were tied for second after 18 holes, one shot behind Lipsky. Kizzire started on the back nine and had a late run with three consecutive birdies to tie for first. A bogey on the eighth hole dropped him back.

Mark Hubbard was at 67. He had nine birdies but fell behind with a bogey and triple bogey on two consecutive holes.

Kevin Dougherty also joined the group with a 67. He made two eagles and capped off his afternoon with a 41-yard hole-in-one on the 383-yard par-4 18th.

Champion Sahith Theegala had to work hard to complete his round of 69.

Wyndham Clark, who won the 2023 U.S. Open and the AT&T at Pebble Beach in February, shot 70.

Max Homa shot 71. The two-time tournament champion and two-week captain’s pick for the Presidents Cup had two birdies and overcame a bogey on the par-4 first hole.

Stewart Cink, the 2020 winner, also opened with a 71. He won the Ally Challenge last month to claim his first PGA Tour Champions title.

The three Presidents Cup international team players had mixed results. Min Woo Lee shot 68, Mackenzie Hughes shot 69 and Corey Conners shot 73. International team captain Mike Weir also shot 69.

Lipsky was a little shaky off the tee for much of the afternoon but made up for it with consistent iron play that put him in great form on the greens. He had one putt on 11 holes and was in position for a better day but fell short of five putts.

Lipsky’s only real problem came on the par-4 ninth, when his approach shot went into a bunker just before the green. He recovered well with five birdies on the back nine. After missing a 19-foot birdie putt on the 17th, Lipsky ended his day with a 12-foot par putt.

It’s a big change from last year when Lipsky tied for 30th at Silverado as he hit the ball well but had inconsistent success on the greens.

Laird remained close after starting his day with a bogey at the par-4 10th. The Scot got off the sand with ease but pushed his par putt wide of the hole.

Homa continued to have problems off the tee and missed birdie shots on the last four holes.
