The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has just announced the results of its assessment of the Xpeng G6 electric SUV, which has achieved a five-star rating in its assessment. Xpeng G6 was launched in Malaysia last monthThere are two versions with prices of RM165,820 and RM185,820 respectively.
The Xpeng G6 scored 88% in adult occupant protection (AOP), with results ranging from “good” to “marginal” assigned in the frontal impact assessment, with “good” ratings in the side movable barrier and side pillar tests of the side impact assessment, although a “poor” rating was recorded in the side and occupant interaction test. Neck protection was rated “good” for front and rear occupants in the rear impact test.
Meanwhile, the Xpeng G6 scored 85% in the child protection category (COP), scoring ‘good’ in both the frontal and side impact tests. The car scored six out of 12 points in the safety features category, with its score being lowered due to the lack of an integrated child restraint system (CRS) and child presence detection, although it scored full marks for the CRS.
A score of 81% was awarded in the Vulnerable Road User (VRU) category, with 0.3 points out of 1 awarded for protection against cyclists “jumping out” or opening their doors into the path of an approaching cyclist; this score is for the driver’s side of the feature’s functionality only. Meanwhile, the G6 scored full marks in the AEB – Motorcyclist and Lane Assist – Motorcyclist category.
The Xpeng G6 scored 75% in the safety assist category, with a rating of ‘adequate’ for speed assist and ‘average’ for occupant status monitoring; this is up from the maximum score awarded in the seatbelt reminder category, but 0.4 out of a possible two points for driver monitoring. It scored 2.5 out of a possible three points in lane assist and 8.3 out of a possible nine points in car-to-car AEB.
