Selena Gomez’s sequin dress features flowers and peplum

Proving that a black dress doesn’t have to be boring, Selena Gomez attended the premiere of her new movie in Canada, Emilia Perezat the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival in a dress that combined two Y2K staples. The black frock featured floral detailing on a sculptural bustier at the intersection of delicate criss-cross spaghetti straps and a delicately ruched peplum skirt. Not only did Carrie Bradshaw give her stamp of approval to the details, thanks to the monochromatic color palette and sleek, stealthy silhouette, but this look proved that when things come back thanks to the never-ending trend cycle, they don’t have to look dated.

Gomez’s dress was a custom-made Rodarte gown (the original red creation was part of the celebrity-favorite brand’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection). On the red carpet, she paired the all-black ensemble with a bold red lip, a pair of dangling diamond earrings, and matching rings. She wore her hair in a deep side part with long strands styled in Old Hollywood waves, and her nails were painted with red lipstick.
