Family confirms his death at age 34

Rich Homie Quan has reportedly passed away. TMZ received confirmation of the rapper’s death from his family and the Fulton County morgue on Thursday (September 5). He was 34.

Quan is best known for taking the rap scene by storm in the mid-2010s after releasing his first single, ‘Difference’, in 2012. From 2013 to 2015, he released vibrant tracks such as ‘Type of Way’, ‘My Hitta’, ‘Walk Thru’ and ‘Flex’.

Offstage, RHQ’s legal name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar. He was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and was just a month shy of his 35th birthday on October 4. Quan is said to be survived by three sons, Devin, Royal, and Khosen.

Friends, Boosie and other celebrities react to Quan’s death

News of Quan’s passing began circulating on X (formerly Twitter) after a prominent Young Thug fan account shared the news, stating that his cause of death was a drug overdose. Less than 30 minutes after the initial post, Thugger Daily followed up with screenshots of Instagram Stories posts from people believed to be close to Quan.

Note that neither The Shade Room nor TMZ have confirmed his cause of death with his family or other parties, but those close to him have offered the same speculations as Thugger Daily.

One post came from Richard Stark, who wrote, “I am so sad.” In May, Stark shared a video of himself at the rapper’s album listening party. The second post came from rapper TO, who shared a photo of Rich Homie Quan with the caption, “RIP.” TO (@iamtogreen on Instagram) also confirmed Quan’s death in a screenshot of a live exchange shared by Thugger Daily. He appeared to imply that the overdose was caused by “poison.”

As mentioned, Boosie also confirmed the speculations about Rich Homie Quan in two X posts. In the first, he tagged Quan, alleged his cause of death was an overdose (OD), and said he had spoken to the rapper recently. The second post shows Boosie speaking highly of RHQ.

“I JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA #tipQUAN Never forget your smile, your way of talking and of course your music,” Boosie wrote.

Recent Headlines Because of Young Thug’s Trial

The day before his death, Rich Homie Quan made headlines for being a star witness in Young Thug’s YSL RICO trial. A viral video shows Atlanta prosecutors questioning Lil Woody on Wednesday (September 4) about Thugger’s past feelings toward RHQ. Woody responded, in part, by trying to ask Young Thug the prosecutor’s question. Both Woody’s unprecedented move and Young Thug’s laughter about it sent the clip viral.

The development comes after Lil Woody previously admitted to shooting up Quan’s father’s barbershop. He made that admission in mid-August, citing a man named Threat as a credit. Woody also spread that admission because before revealing the truth, he turned to the judge and asked, “Sir, did you just say that nothing I say can be used against me?” When the judge confirmed, Woody gave up.

Woody eventually testified, “I don’t know what happened with Threat and Rich Homie Quan, but I was with my brother and they got into an argument and yeah, we stopped and did that.”

Rest in peace Rich Homie Quan.
