The Volvo EX30 is set to launch later this month, and it looks like Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) is embarking on a form of guerrilla marketing with this camouflaged vehicle, which is registered. Over the weekend, I happened to see this car by the lakeside of Subang Ria Park, which was booked for a smartphone launch attended by a younger demographic.

Embedded in the EX30’s camouflage are the phrases ‘Big on Safety’ and ‘Big on Tech’, as well as a call to action to ‘be the first to drive’ the vehicle at KL Base, from 26 to 29 September. That’s the new name of the historic Sungai Besi airport, which VCM also uses for Volvo’s safe driving experience earlier this year. Dates must be set aside for a customer launch event next weekend. Official launch on September 25.

Anyway, Registration of interest is openand some units of EV have been was found on a trailer headed to Port Klang. last month. This indicates that CKD assembly operations at Volvo’s Shah Alam plant have begun and exports have also begun.

The Volvo EX30 is one of the most interesting EVs out there, perhaps because it’s so different. Unique design (so cool), unique size (tiny, and not just for Volvo), unique user interface (you’ve probably heard of the no-button, no-gauge/HUD approach), and – as Hafriz Shah discovered in Sweden – unique to drive as well. The following was actually a surprise to this guy who has driven almost every electric vehicle sold in Malaysia.

The EX30 is Volvo’s smallest car (ever?). Built on Geely’s Scalable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform, it also supports smart #1, smart #3 and coming soon X-ShipThe dedicated EV is just 4,223mm long, 1,837mm wide and 1,555mm tall, making it 202mm, 26mm and 97mm shorter than the XC40 respectively. Its 2,650mm wheelbase is 52mm shorter than the smallest XC. The EX30 is also much smaller than its smart siblings.

EX30 is now available at Thailand And Indonesia. In the Land of Smiles, there are three versions on offer. All feature a 69 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack with a maximum charging rate of 11 kW AC and 153 kW DC.

The Core Single Motor Extended Range and Ultra Single Motor Extended Range feature a rear-mounted motor rated at 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm, with a WLTP range of 480 km. The top-spec Ultra Twin Motor Performance adds a front motor for 428 PS (315 kW), 543 Nm and a WLTP range of 460 km.

Through inside IndonesiaThere’s no AWD model, but RWD buyers have a choice of two battery packs. The base Plus trim gets a 51 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack good for 215 miles of range, while the top-of-the-line Ultra Extended Range trim gets a 69 kWh NMC battery good for 300 miles of range.

We will soon know which variants Malaysia will get. For now, let’s take a look. Rate our video below and let us know what you think of the Volvo EX30. Now, BYD Seal And Tesla Model 3 are the EVs that are considered desirable and there are also the newly launched ones. MINI Cooper SE And SE fellow countryman in living space

Price is a huge factor for electric cars, with growing supply struggling to keep up with demand that may not be growing as fast. The EX30 is a very small car and Volvo has to undercut its own price. XC40 Pure Electric Rechargeretails for RM280k. Prices in Indonesia start from the equivalent of RM248k, and ours may be lower. The all-new U25 Countryman mentioned above – which is much larger, by the way – is priced at RM266,288 with full warranty. So, perhaps RM200k to RM240k? We’ll find out soon enough.
