Australia will be the place where Volkswagen sets an unusual world record


The German car giant has seemingly done it all, from captivating the masses with the Beetle to becoming the world’s largest car manufacturer – and now it’s looking to make history in Australia.

To celebrate 70 years in Australia and promote the launch Code 4 And Code 5 electric vehicle (EV), Volkswagen has its sights set on a very specific world record – drawing the largest GPS image ever created by a car.

This image will be a simple message: “70 years of VeeDub”.

The Volkswagen ID.4, driven by German duo Rainer Zietlow and Marius Biela, began its journey earlier this month, with the brand estimating that the electric car will travel more than 33,000km.

All stages of the trip are being online detailsThe group has now completed their “70 Year O” journey, which has taken them through New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

The Volkswagen ID.4 doesn’t currently hold any world records, although its Skoda cousin – Enyaq – last year set the standard for Longest continuous drift on icefor both electric and all types of vehicles.
