BMW is recalling Mini Cooper SE Electric hatchback due to possible manufacturing issues Short circuit in electric vehicle battery.
The Cooper SE is an all-electric version of the three-door Mini hatchback introduced in 2020. The recall includes 12,535 vehicles from that model year through 2024. According to NHTSA, these vehicles may have battery packs that were not manufactured to specifications.

A defect in these battery packs may cause a short circuit, which may result in overheating and in rare cases, a “heat event”, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off, recall documents say. BMW is aware of two customer complaints that may be related to the issue, but is not aware of any related accidents or injuries.
The fix is a free software update, but it must be done at a dealershipBMW plans to send letters to customers letting them know when to bring their vehicles to a dealer to have this done by October 7, 2024. Owners can also contact Mini customer service at 1-866-275-6464 if they have any questions.
Mini Cooper SE 2020
This is Second recent battery recall of the Mini Cooper SE, although the previous recall was much smaller. In April, 145 vehicles from model years 2020 through 2024 were recalled because of the risk of water damage to the battery pack posing a fire hazard.
Cooper SE has received a increased range and effectiveness for the 2022 model year, but overall stand firm on price throughout its production run, making it one of a shrinking number of affordable electric cars. It will be replaced by an electric version of the redesigned 2025 Mini Cooper Hatch, which will be sold alongside the first electric version of the Mini Countryman Multi-Purpose Vehicle.
