2024 BMW i4 recalled because chassis beams may crack


BMW is recalling 1,150 i4 electric cars because of a part Chassis may be cracked and loss of structural integrity.

All recalled vehicles are 2024 Modelsincludes three versions of the i4 available for that model year. Including the base single-motor i4 eDrive40, the dual-motor i4 xDrive50, and Top i4 M50.

These vehicles may have been manufactured with a left-side cross member that “may not have been manufactured to specifications by the supplier,” the NHTSA recall report said. Specifically, it may crack near the rivet flange area used to support the rear wheel arch. In a crash, this could lead to increased chassis deformation in the rear seat area and potentially damage the batterymay pose a fire hazard, according to NHTSA.

BMW is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue – which was discovered during supplier quality checks – nor is it aware of any warranty claims or customer complaints related to this issue.

The dealer will check the left longitudinal beam and replace it if necessaryfree. BMW plans to start mailing owner notice October 7, 2024. Owners can also contact the automaker’s customer service department at 1-800-525-7417.

Introduced for the 2022 model year, the i4 pairs an all-electric powertrain with the body shell of the gasoline-powered BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe. The electric model gets a number of updates for 2025, includes an enhanced range in certain configurations. BMW is shifting away from combustion-based electric models with New Class Familybased on a dedicated EV architecture, scheduled to launch in Europe in 2025.
