Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2024 Review – W214 E200, E350e Tested Ahead of Launch in Malaysia

It has been more than a year since The W214 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been revealed to the worldBut the sixth-generation luxury sedan will finally be available in Malaysia, with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) teased that the car would be “coming soon.” Ahead of the local launch, the company sent Hafriz Shah to Vienna, Austria to test drive the new model in mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms.

Following on from the much-loved W213, the new W214 gets a significant redesign (including some ostentatious Three-Pointed Star taillights) and a completely revamped interior. The latter debuts the MBUX Superscreen, which includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster display, a 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a second 12.3-inch touchscreen for the front passengers. There’s even a “webcam” on the dashboard that can be used for videoconferencing services like Zoom and Webex.

Globally, the W214 will be offered with a range of petrol and diesel powertrains, all of which will feature some form of electrification. For the first time, Malaysia will get a fully electrified E-Class, starting with the E200 mild-hybrid, which uses a 204PS/320Nm M254 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired with a 23PS/220Nm electric motor.

Back in the lineup is E350e Plug-in Hybrid (badged E300e in other markets). This increases electric motor output to 129 PS and 440 Nm of torque, giving a total system output of 313 PS and 550 Nm. The 25.4 kWh battery provides an all-electric range of 97 to 115 km on a single charge.

With the W214 set to battle the new car G60 BMW 5 Series In Malaysia, has Mercedes gone far enough to revive arguably its most important model? And does it have enough substance to make up for the somewhat frivolous Tristar design? Check out Hafriz’s review below.
