Musk Creek Wants to Support Magic Millions Virtual Sale

Musk Creek Farm hopes to make a strong return by offering four quality broodmares at the Magic Millions Virtual Sale on August 27, the first edition of the auction the Victorian farm hopes to support.

A total of 46 lots will be auctioned online from 2pm including 32 mares led by the Oakleigh Plate (G1) winner Marabi and the winner of group 2 is Steel City.

Musk Creek is the leading supplier in numbers, with four quality broodmares, including half-sisters to group four winner Divine Madonna at Deipara and Notre Dame Cathedral.

Farm manager Scott Williamson said Mornington Peninsula Farm was delighted to be sponsoring this innovative new sale.

“We’re always happy to see sales companies try new things, so we wanted to support Magic Millions in doing something like this,” Williamson told ANZ. “Magics is putting a lot of effort into this and it seemed like a good idea, which is part of the reason we’ve put four mares into the sale.

“Given the current market, I think it will be quite selective, but there will be something for everyone and people will be able to focus on specific horses within a variety of budgets.”

Musk Creek offers two pregnant mares, including Lot 23, Only wordswinner of The Roses (G2) in 2021 and at Listed level in New Zealand.

This 7-year-old mare is pregnant at Swettenham Stud Toronto who followed up his impressive 2023-24 finish of 13th in the combined stallion standings by rising to fourth so far in this year’s edition—and tops the winners list, with 23.

“Toronado is doing really well as a breeding stallion, so he’s very popular, so we thought we’d test the market and see what the market would think of a Group 2 winning stallion,” Williamson said.

“Her first foal with Maurice was a healthy, walking foal, and she is a delightful young mare, so we are hopeful she will do well, especially with a successful stallion like Toronado. I think Toronado will be a great stallion too, being bred to High Chaparral.”

Another Musk Creek product is Lot 17, an American mare. Apologies not accepted who is bringing the Darley shuttler Pinatubo .

The 13-year-old mare has won four races in the United States from six furlongs to 1 1/16 miles and has been stakes placed three times at Grade 2 and Grade 3.

Her offspring have shone at yearling sales. Goodes—now a four-time winner for Trent Edmonds—was bought by the Rosemont Victorian Alliance for $500,000 at the Gold Coast in 2022, while Plea went for $550,000 there a year later, having been bought by Kia Ora, TFI and Lloyd Kennewell.

Apologynotaccepted’s half-sister Curlin’s Approval was the second place winner, while her real sister Curlin’s Lover is the beating of fun Title Number who had two starts to start his career for Klaravich Stables and trainer Chad Brown.

Williamson said of Darley’s racehorse: “Apologynotaccepted is a mare with a lot of potential on the track, has had some great sales results and is being offered to Pinatubo, which could spark some interest.”

“Pinatubo’s first foals will be sold at auction next year. By all accounts, everyone has loved his weanlings at auction, and I know I’ve been impressed with them. He could be the next Too Darn Hot horse on the track success list, as a young Darley stallion here.”
