When Sideshow Bob plans to kill Bart after being released from prison, the Simpson family is placed in witness protection under the name “The Thompsons” in Cape Feare.

It was written by Jennifer Crittenden and follows Marge as she impulsively buys a Chanel dress at a consignment shop and then becomes obsessed with getting into Springfield’s exclusive country club. Murphy’s favorite episode, “Scenes of Class Struggle in Springfield,” stands out to him for its insightful and incisive commentary on class—an important and sometimes overlooked hallmark of The SimpsonsFrom Marge working overtime to fit in with the country club crowd at her family’s expense to Monty Burns, a golfer who doesn’t realize he’s a bad golfer because his subordinates keep cheating him, “Scenes of Class Struggle in Springfield” deftly mocks the upper class.
The last episode mentioned in part one of Still watchingThe Simpsons series is season 6 episode 8 “A Millhouse Divided,” aired December 1, 1996. Written by Steve TompkinsThe episode focuses on the parents of supporting characters Millhouse, LuAnne and Kirk VanHouten, who, after a night of terrible video games at the Simpsons, decide to divorce. LuAnne’s brightness versus Kirk’s depression is played to maximum comedic effect until the very end of the episode, when, for a brief moment, it seems like Kirk is about to win back his estranged wife. (He doesn’t.) Highlights of “A Millhouse Divided” The Simpsons‘s master wordsmithing, dedicating an entire episode to a supporting character’s parents and turning it into one of the series’ best. While things don’t end well for LuAnne and Kirk, “A Millhouse Divided” is also a great Homer and Marge episode, highlighting Homer’s sweetness and deep affection for Marge beneath his goofiness.
