Touring Superleggera turns Ferrari 550 Maranello into Veloce12

EQUAL car design Homes continue to search through used car catalogs for gems to polish, we’ve been waiting Ferrari 550 Maranello is nearing completion of the carriage building. of Milan Tourism Super car was the first to do that, as far as we know, with Veloce12 — yes, there are no gaps in Veloce12, like Ferrari’s new 12Cilindri. Everyone is familiar with the program: a donor car is brought into the Touring workshop for a full body check, including the bodywork, followed by a full overhaul. The rebuild begins, as usual, with additional reinforcement at key points, with Touring saying it tested every load-bearing member using finite element analysis to determine how many struts to put in and where. Torsional stiffness is said to be on target for the F12 (which also goes by its full name, sans the space, F12berlinetta), the 550’s successor was two generations away, with the 599 in between.

The bodywork adds more curves to the 550’s lines in a similar way to how Callum redesigned the silhouette of the 355 by Evoluto. The front receives most of the additional sculpting, with the Touring transforming the lower front air intakes from small openings into larger channels to sweep air around the front wheels. New multi-element LED headlights flank a wider and taller grille than the original. At the rear, the redesigned hood scoop is more prominent and bears the styling house’s signature. The larger shapes of the carbon fiber The body bulges from front to rear, the fenders curve over the front wheels, the doors are slanted, and the shoulder line drops down at the rear window and then rises up again over the rear fenders.

The 550 has always been strong. With the right preparation for racing, several teams have won races on three continents with the 550, winning two class championships, taking the class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2004. Le Mansand ranked second in GTS American Le Mans Series class in 2003. As a daily driver, Evolution named 550 Greatest Driver’s Car of the Decade in 2004, calling it “an all-time car” Ferrari wonderful” and wrote, “Never had a supercar exploitable and capable of comprehensive development.”

This might help explain why the Touring Superleggera’s engineering department only used the 5.5-liter V12. After a complete teardown, inspection, and rebuild with new components and a more robust cooling system, the final output was 503 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque. That’s just 25 more horsepower and the same torque, so 0-62 mph is listed in the same 4.4 seconds as the stock 550. There’s a bigger upgrade to the sound, with Touring fitting a more vocal Supersprint exhaust.

The Italians worked with British suspension company Tractive — familiar from Kalmar 9X9 — on a multi-axis G-force sensor to control an active damper. This is despite the fact that Tractive doesn’t sell retail products for any Ferraris. Touring is back IDEA because brakeBrembo systems hide behind custom wheels, with six-piston calipers on 15-inch discs up front, four-piston calipers on 15-inch discs at the rear.

All we know about the interior is that it features “ergonomically sculpted seats” and “precision-machined controls.” The photos lead us to believe that the leather is luxurious enough to make a cow jealous.

Ferrari produced just over 3,700 550 Maranellos between 1996 and 2001. Touring says it is willing to convert just 30 of them into Veloce12s, either left- or right-hand drive. Each costs €690,000 ($761,120) plus the donor car and taxes. Deliveries will begin around the middle of next year.
