You can book rooms at these Six Senses hotels and resorts with IHG points

Six Senses hotels and resorts offer a unique style of wellness-focused, friendly luxury. The two Six Senses resorts I’ve stayed at — Six Senses Laamu in Maldives and Six Senses Yao Noi in Thailand — easily makes my top five places to stay for its rustic, approachable luxury in a beautiful, remote setting. However, as Six Senses opens more urban properties, even those accustomed to city living may enjoy the brand.

Stay at best six sense resorts usually costs more than $600 a night. But you can Earn IHG Points at selected Six Senses properties. And even if a paid vacation is out of your budget, you can still redeem IHG points to stay at select Six Senses hotels and resorts. After all, InterContinental Hotels Group acquired Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas in 2019 and added the first Six Senses properties to IHG One Rewards program in March 2021.

Unfortunately, IHG hasn’t yet integrated every Six Senses property into IHG One Rewards. So here’s what you need to know about the Six Senses hotels and resorts that are participating in IHG One Rewards.

How to identify participating Six Senses hotels and resorts

IHG does not publish a list of Six Senses hotels participating in the IHG One Rewards program. However, you can find a list of all hotels and resorts on Six Senses website.

To determine if a specific Six Senses property participates in IHG One Rewards, you’ll need to enter dates and search for prices on that property’s Six Senses landing page. Only at this point will you be able to see if the property is participating.

For example, when I search for a stay at Six Senses Krabey Island, I see “IHG® One Rewards is not currently available at this Six Senses hotel” in the box on the right side of the screen.

But when I searched for a place to stay at Six Senses Laamu, I saw the option to log in and redeem IHG points for certain room types.

Since these hotels and resorts participate in the IHG One Rewards program, you can earn and redeem IHG points for stays at these properties. You’ll also enjoy certain benefits if you have IHG’s elite status or choose other memberships, which I will discuss later.

6 Six Senses properties not participating in IHG One Rewards program

Unfortunately, the following Six Senses hotels and resorts do not participate in the IHG One Rewards program:

  • Six Senses Douro Valley (Portugal)
  • Six Senses Kocatas Mansions, Istanbul (Türkiye)
  • Six Senses Krabey Island (Cambodia)
  • Six Senses Mount Qingcheng (China)
  • Six Senses Samui (Thailand)
  • Six Senses Zighy Bay (Oman)

You cannot book these hotels with IHG points, you will not earn IHG points or preferential night credits when you stay, and you will not receive any IHG membership benefits at these Six Senses hotels and resorts.

What you need to know about redeeming IHG points for stays at Six Senses

As discussed above, you can redeem IHG points for stays at participating Six Senses properties. Like other IHG One Rewards properties, reward nights at these participating Six Senses hotels and resorts use dynamic pricing.

Some Six Senses properties have a minimum stay requirement on select dates. However, members have the option IHG One Rewards Credit Card can have everything Wednesday bonus night free at Six Senses properties when you redeem IHG points for stays of four nights or more. This fourth reward night free benefit can help you get more value from your IHG points.

Note that many Six Senses hotels and resorts offer special packages that can be worth more than redeeming IHG points. For example, for a four-night stay at Six Senses Laamu next month, I can redeem 570,000 points after getting my fourth free reward night as part of my perks. IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card. But, I could instead book the extended stay half-day rate of $3,528, which includes daily breakfast and dinner for two and 25% off round-trip seaplane transfers. Redeeming points would give me a redemption value of 0.62 cents per point, but the extended stay half-day rate offers additional value through daily dinners and a 25% discount on seaplane transfers.

So check the price paid before assuming that redeeming IHG points will give you the best value.

IHG benefits at Six Senses properties

Six Senses properties are typically relatively small. And many offer non-traditional service delivery methods. As a result, some IHG One Rewards benefits may be different or not available even at participating Six Senses properties. For example, member rates are not available at Six Senses hotels and resorts.

InterContinental AmbassadorInterContinental Royal Ambassador and Kimpton Inner Circle Members enjoy additional benefits when staying at participating Six Senses properties. Specifically, these members can expect:

  • Complimentary daily breakfast for two at the main restaurant (not applicable at Six Senses Residences)
  • Signature amenity includes a complimentary 50-minute Six Senses Spa massage for two or one local experience per stay (varies by resort; subject to availability and confirmed upon arrival; not valid with corporate or negotiated rates)
  • Complimentary room upgrade to one room category (subject to availability; excludes houses and suites and villas with two or more bedrooms)
  • Check-out time is extended until 4pm (subject to availability for Ambassador members and all members at Six Senses Residences)
  • Early check-in at 10am (subject to availability for Ambassador members and all members at Six Senses Residences)
  • Free internet access
  • Welcome wellness platter amenity (subject to availability at Six Senses Residences)

However, these benefits are only available to eligible members when booking directly or through an authorized travel agent.

The last line

I like that IHG has added most of its Six Senses properties to its program. However, despite the program starting adding more hotels three years ago, six Six Senses properties still do not participate in IHG One Rewards. It is unclear whether these Six Senses properties will ever join IHG One Rewards.

Getting a fourth night free might be a compelling reason to redeem your IHG points for a stay. But if you have the travel budget to pay for a stay at Six Senses, double-check the price you paid to see if there are any packages that offer better value than redeeming your points.
