HIMSSCast: As Security Threats Escalate, Intelligence Sharing Is Essential

If the cybersecurity space seems busier than usual lately, you’re not imagining it. In mid-2024, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights reported nearly 400 data breaches to its portal as of June 30—the most in a six-month period since OCR began tracking 14 years ago.

We recently spoke with Errol Weiss, chief security officer at Health-ISAC, about that dubious milestone — and how healthcare organizations can better position themselves to avoid becoming one of those statistics.

The Center for Healthcare Information Sharing and Analysis is a global organization designed to help healthcare stakeholders coordinate, collaborate, and share cybersecurity threat intelligence and best practices.

Weiss discussed the critical value of information sharing as healthcare organizations work to bolster defenses and risk mitigation strategies in an increasingly tense cybersecurity landscape.
