More details on BMW recall

According to USA Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued the recall on August 1. The company is reportedly recalling “approximately 105,588” models due to starter motor failure.

“An overheated starter motor can ignite nearby combustible materials in the engine compartment, increasing the risk of fire,” The NHTSA notice reads as follows.

Delaware Online reports that attempting to start the engine multiple times can cause an electrical overload, leading to the engine overheating.

According to USA Today, affected models include “select 2019-2020 X5, X7, 3 Series Sedan, X6, 7 Series Sedan, 8 Series Convertible, 8 Series Coupe and 8 Series Gran Coupe vehicles.”

Here’s what customers should do

BMW owners affected by the recall will be notified by mail, according to the source. Drivers who want to check if their vehicle is affected can visit the NHTSA website.

Delaware Online added that BMW dealers will update the software on affected vehicles “free of charge.” Additionally, the news site noted that BMW drivers can call customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Tesla Recently Recalled Over One Million Cars

BMW isn’t the only car company to issue a recall in recent months. As The Shade Room previously reported, Tesla recalled more than 1.8 million vehicles after a “software bug” prevented the vehicles from “detecting that the hood was not latched.”

At the time, the Daily Mail reported that the defect could cause the hood to open while the car was moving. Furthermore, the defect could obstruct the driver’s view, creating a risk of collision.

At the time, it was reported that Tesla had fixed the problem by sending out an “over-the-air software update.” Tesla had also previously issued a recall of more than two million vehicles in December 2023.
