SAINT-DENIS, France — Masai Russell sprinted down the track, her graceful legs skimming the ten barriers separating her from the finish line.

The 24-year-old Marylander was just a fraction of a second faster than French hurdler Cyrena Samba-Mayela. Her margin of victory? One-hundredth of a second.

There was a moment’s delay while the finish photo was analyzed and Russell jumped into the air as her gold medal win was confirmed. Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won bronze at the Olympic Games.

The victory capped off a dominating performance by the U.S. women’s hurdlers in Paris. On Thursday, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone smashed She set her own world record by winning the gold medal in the women’s 400 metres final.
