Independence Day 2024: Security Forces Deploy AI-Based Surveillance System to Strengthen Security at Red Fort


As Independence Day approaches, the national and national security forces are stepping up security measures at and around the Red Fort in New Delhi using artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology. Reports indicate that the security plan includes sophisticated crowd management and surveillance tools.

Advanced AI Surveillance System

According to a report by ANI, AI-powered camera systems will be installed around the Red Fort for the upcoming celebrations. These cameras will have capabilities like facial recognition, crowd estimation, and license plate recognition. They will monitor key entry and exit points, providing real-time data to security personnel. Additionally, the cameras are designed to identify abandoned items and detect unauthorized access.

Coverage of 700 CCTV Cameras

The security upgrade will include the deployment of 700 CCTV cameras, with more than 150 equipped with advanced video analytics technology. System features include license plate recognition, facial recognition against watch lists, people counting, intrusion detection and audio monitoring. The cameras will also help identify abandoned objects in public places.

Improved facial and vehicle recognition

An official revealed that AI-powered cameras will be strategically placed to accurately estimate crowd sizes at various points. New facial recognition technology will match faces from live feeds and recorded footage to a watchlist database, enhancing the ability to track individuals. The system can identify multiple faces in group images and search for similar faces across multiple cameras.

The new license plate recognition system will continuously process video to capture and record license plates, adding another layer of surveillance.

Despite the advanced technology, human surveillance remains vital. More than 10,000 security personnel from the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces will be deployed around the Red Fort and other key locations in central and north Delhi to ensure total security throughout the event.
