Dodge Charger Daytona EV has a front trunk, but costs more than other cars today

Front body, also known as frunkhave been around long enough to have great-grandchildren. Front trunks were never popular because they were reserved for mid- and rear-engined vehicles. However, with the advent of electric vehicles, there were no longer large engines taking up much space, so electric vehicles often had both a regular trunk and a front trunk. New Dodge Charger EV It makes no difference, or at least it does if you really want it so badly that you’re willing to pay $4,995 for the privilege.

To be clear, Dodge doesn’t sell the trunk as a standalone option that costs nearly $5,000. If it did, I’d probably start a riot instead of just writing a post about it. Instead, the trunk is included as part of the Plus Group, which adds, among other things, a 16-inch infotainment screen, cooled leatherette seats, and LED headlights. The trunk is just one part of the package.

Now, if you read carefully, you will notice this in the Our post on the price of the new Charger. We didn’t say it at the time, but this was the first time I’d heard of a frunk being sold as an option. Really, everything seems to be optional or sold as a subscription these days, so it’s not the most surprising thing in the world, but seriously? The frunk? According to Motor1Audi has also made front doors optional on the Q6 E-Tron in Europe, but it’s unclear whether that will happen when it comes to the United States.

But at the same time, how important is a trunk? I haven’t seen any hard data, but based on some of the conversations I’ve had, trunks aren’t exactly popular. It’s clear that even if EVs had them, most people wouldn’t use them. So if it costs extra to make room for a trunk in a car that already starts at $61,590, then perhaps Dodge should offer it as an option. After all, why add the cost of something that only a handful of people will use to the base price of a car that’s already significantly more expensive than its predecessor?

Also, as you can see from the video below (with a timestamp of when they open the hood), the trunk isn’t that big. Sure, you could probably fit a few groceries in there, but you probably wouldn’t. But then again, a few days ago I passed two women loading groceries into the trunk of their C8 Corvette, so maybe people actually use their trunks. What do you think? Is this a big deal, or is this another case of automakers charging for something that should be standard?
