The golf action was in full swing over 18 holes at Paris Olympics 2024and it will stay that way for the next 54 days. If you live in the United States, you’ll have to wake up pretty early in the morning to feel the heat. The festivities continue Friday at 3 a.m. ET when the second round begins at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France.
Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama leads after 18 holes over Xander Schauffele of the United States, but they face a group of big-name golfers such as Scottie Scheffler of the United States, Rory McIlroy of Ireland and Ludvig Åberg of Sweden close behind.
With only 60 golfers on the course, each round goes by pretty quickly. Tee times are shortened — especially compared to the Open Championship two weeks ago — and there are some great groups to watch throughout the competition.
Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood is playing alongside Matsuyama, while Spain’s Jon Rahm and Norway’s Viktor Hovland will push Schauffele through the second 18-hole set. See full list Paris 2024 Olympic Games Kick-off Times.
If you’re wondering what this event means to French athletes Victor Perez and Matthew Pavon, both of whom are competing in their home countries, Pavon shared this earlier this week: “After a few days in the Olympic Village, the opening ceremony in Paris with the crowd in front of the Eiffel Tower and all the great moments we had in the last few days, I really feel like the gold medal now ranks higher than a major tournament for me.”
This week is also a chance for superstars like Scheffler, McIlroy and Matsuyama to add to their career achievements that have yet to be achieved: an Olympic medal.
