The US Open concludes in June, marking the end of the qualifying period for golf competition at the Paris Olympics 2024 will be held from August 1 to 4 at Le Golf National. While the United States is a strong team, they can probably be even stronger.

Notable among the absentees will be US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, who will not be donning the red, white and blue in Paris. While the Olympic Golf Rankings may seem like a unique process, they are essentially a replica of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Playing on a course (LIV Golf) that does not award OWGR points, DeChambeau failed to qualify despite a string of excellent finishes at three major championships this year, including a T6 at the Masters, a second-place finish at the PGA Championship and a win at Pinehurst No. 2. Moving up to 10th in the OWGR, DeChambeau’s name still trails five other Americans.

The Olympic qualifying rounds are as follows:

  • Top 15 in OWGR qualified
  • No more than four players can be selected from a given country
  • Outside of the top 15, “players will qualify based on world rankings, with a maximum of two players qualifying from each country that does not already have two or more players in the top 15”

So, representing the United States at the Olympics:

  • Scottie Scheffler (OWGR No. 1)
  • Xander Schauffele (No. 3)
  • Wyndham Clark (No. 5)
  • Collin Morikawa (No. 7)

Schauffele, a gold medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will compete for Team USA alongside Morikawa for the second time. Patrick Cantlay almost made it to the final but needed a top-two finish at the US Open to qualify; instead, he finished third.

The U.S. wasn’t the only team to undergo some roster changes after the U.S. Open. Canada’s final spot was up for grabs for much of the competition as Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and Adam Hadwin looked to join Nick Taylor. Ultimately, Conners emerged victorious and will be taking the stage in Paris.

Countries like Ireland have been locked down for a while now, with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry representing them. Spain has also seen some action, with Jon Rahm leading his nation and LIV Golf member David Puig earning a spot by qualifying for the US Open and, in doing so, qualifying for the Olympics.

Other stars of the game such as Hideki Matsuyama (Japan), Ludvig Åberg (Sweden) and Viktor Hovland (Norway) will participate in the 60-man tournament later this summer.
