Initial launching in 2022The fully electric Can-Am Motorcycles Origin dual-sport and Pulse streetbike will be fully unveiled with more details and specs this fall. Now, Can-Am has released a four-part documentary that traces the creation of these electric motorcycles, marking Can-Am’s return to the two-wheeled segment.
Can-Am turns 51 in 2024, and the brand has a long history of two-wheel innovation that has led to the Origin and Pulse. The first Can-Am dirt bike, built in 1973, was an immediate success in off-road and endurance racing. The company continued to build dirt bikes until 1987. In 1998, the company introduced its ATV line, and in 2007, Spyder RS three wheeler appeared, followed by other three-wheeled machines on the road.
Both the Can-Am Origin and Can-Am Pulse are powered by Rotax E-Power technology. Working closely with Rotax in Austria, BRP (Can-Am’s parent company) was able to create a motor specifically designed for these motorcycles. In the third episode of the documentary series, Jean-Francois Lambert, vice president of advanced technology and electric vehicle development, explains that the battery is in the middle, the inverter is on one side, the VCU is on the other, the charger is on the top of the package, and the motor is on the swingarm.
The Origin and Pulse also get LED headlights, TFT displays, white and grey bodywork, upside-down forks, single disc brakes and a single seat.
Ahead of the official launch of these two new all-electric vehicles later this year, viewers can learn more about the creation of the Can-Am Origin and Can-Am Pulse by watching the short documentaries below.
