Glass nails are the latest trend that is overtaking enamel nails
We had nail trends a lot this year, from butter nails And fruit nail art and the continued rule of neutral And chrome plated nailsHowever, a new nail trend is emerging with glass nails.
With Google searches for glass nails increasing by 5,000%, it’s clear that there’s a new chrome nail trend that’s about to replace enamel nails. But what exactly are glass nails and how are they different from chrome nails? Famous nail technician, Karolina Zuk (who has done nails for celebrities like Rosie Huntington-Whitley) gives us the lowdown on the new nail trends.
What is a glass nail?
Like the enamel nails we’ve seen on people like Hailey Bieber, enamel nails take shine to the next level with a chrome powder. While the enamel nail trend typically features a milky white base (like OPI Fun Bunny) Before the chrome powder is applied, glass nails have a clear, neutral base that allows the chrome powder to—literally—glow, with a reflective, glassy finish. Glass nails are a continuation of the chrome powder trend we’ve seen in recent years.
“It all started many years ago when chromium powder was introduced, but due to the trends of the time, they were forgotten,” he said. Zuk“It first made a global comeback when Hailey Bieber showed off her polished nails, so I think that brought the style back and it’s still around today,” she says, explaining that depending on the type of chrome powder your manicurist uses, you can create different effects.
How to get glass nails
There is an art to achieving glass nails, he says. Zuk“When working with gel, the technique is very precise and relies on timing the drying time of the coat, which is key to achieving the perfect rubbed-in powder,” she says, which will help you achieve the perfect glass finish.
“Once you’ve applied your ideal base coat, apply a top coat and cure it for 20-25 seconds using a UV/LED lamp. Make sure your lamp is still on full power. Then, using an eyeshadow sponge, rub the powder over the top coat, buff the edge of the nail, and apply a non-acidic primer. Use a soft brush to remove any dust and apply a top coat, sealing the edge of the nail,” she says.
Can you do glass nails at home?
Chrome powders usually require a no-wipe gel polish to adhere to create a glass-like finish, but you can find plenty of chrome-effect nail polishes that will give you a similar look if you want to achieve this look at home. “What I always advise my clients to do is use Japan nail artt (you can buy the kit online). After that, your nails will be shiny as glass and extremely healthy,” he said. Zuk.
