Koei Tecmo has released the first live footage of the game The Origin of Dynasty Warriors at ChinaJoy 2024. It shows what the new version of the tactical hack and slash action game series will look like.
Game producer Tomohiko Sho was on stage and he mentioned that The Origin of Dynasty Warriors will have a deeper story set in China’s Three Kingdoms era. While most entries in the series begin with the Han Dynasty forces subduing the Yellow Turbans in 184 AD, the story in Source will begin in early 183 AD. The original player-controlled protagonist will witness Han Dynasty officials oppressing villagers and Zhang Jiao establishing the Yellow Turbans.
The Origin of Dynasty Warriors There will also be a 3D world map. But unlike Dynasty Warriors 9With an open world setting, the world map in this game only allows players to access battles, shops, and character interactions. The battles in Source will take place on maps with limited area like Dynasty Warriors 8 and previous titles. While players will primarily control the original protagonist, they can also temporarily access other existing characters such as Guan Yu at certain points in the game.
Additionally, the footage also confirms that Koei Tecmo will be bringing back some music from previous installments in the series. The company used “Eve” for the opening and “The Wall of Fate” for Battle of Sishui Gate, both of which first appeared in Dynasty Warriors 4.
