EV startup Karma to debut GT-UV concept in Monterey


Karma said Monday it will unveil a new concept vehicle at the 2024 Monterey Car Week next month, with descriptions suggesting it will be an SUV.

The concept is called the GT UV Design Study, although that’s not its actual name. It’s scheduled to debut on August 16 at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, one of Monterey Car Week’s flagship events.

Karma describes the concept as a large touring utility vehicle with four seats and off-road capabilities. Teaser photos released alongside Monday’s announcement suggest we may be looking at an SUV of some sort, and a very sleek one.

The Kaveya was first revealed in 2023, but the upcoming version will feature the interior of the production model, which Karma now expects to go on sale in 2026, or a year later than previously announced. It will have up to 1,000 horsepower and start at around $300,000.

The Gyesera was unveiled in March and is expected to go on sale later this year, although that could also be pushed back to 2025. Karma has previously said the car will have a 120-kilowatt-hour battery, a maximum output of 590 horsepower, and a starting price of around $175,000.

Karma is the company that emerged from the remains of the original Fisker Automotive that went bankrupt in 2013, and the company’s first and only current model is Reveroa beefed-up version of the Fisker Karma. Like the Fisker, the Revero is a plug-in hybrid, but all future Karma models will be electric.

Karma just a few years ago had plans to offer luxury cars with commercial vehiclesalthough the company now plans to focus entirely on high-end, highly personalized luxury vehicles. The company wants to position itself as an American ultra-luxury brand, not unlike the Duesenberg of more than a century ago. Production of the new Karmas will take place at the company’s factory in Moreno Valley, California, where the Revero is built.
