3M Open 2024 picks, predictions, odds, field: Golf pros underrate Sahith Theegala at TPC Twin Cities

Former 3M Open champion Tony Finau will look to get back to form this week when he enters the 2024 3M Open, which begins Thursday at TPC Twin Cities outside Minneapolis. Finau, ranked No. 19 in the world, won the 3M Open in 2022 and finished third in 2020. In five career appearances at TPC Twin Cities, he has never missed the cut. He enters this year’s tournament after missing the cut at the Open Championship, which ended a streak of nine consecutive qualifying attempts.

Finau is the +1100 favorite in the 2024 3M Open odds. Sam Burns is the second pick at +1800 in the 2024 3M Open group. Sahith Theegala (+2000), Akshay Bhatia (+2200) and Luke Clanton (+2800) complete the top five picks on the PGA odds board. One surprise: Nejad is completely overshadowing Sahith Theegala, despite being the third pick at +2000 odds. Theegala is in the midst of his most lucrative season on the PGA Tour. He has earned more than $7.8 million this year, surpassing his previous record of $7.2 million set last season.

However, Theegala has struggled at the 3M Open in his career. In fact, he has never qualified in his three previous starts. “While I think he could have a good tournament, his history at TPC Twin Cities says otherwise,” Nejad told SportsLine.

Another curveball: Nejad is bullish on JT Poston, who is +3500 in the 3M Open. A two-time winner on the PGA Tour, Poston has four top-10s and eight top-25s in 19 events this season. He has made the cut in five of his last six events.

Nejad likes Poston as a birdie machine. He ranks 12th on the PGA Tour in total birdies (287). “To me, Poston is very well-regarded in terms of his approach and his ball-striking numbers, and his accuracy off the tee and on the ball will keep him out of harm’s way,” Nejad said.
