Next generation Toyota Corolla is expected to launch in 2026, according to Best car websiteand the upcoming version of the hugely popular model is said to use plug-in hybrid technology from Chinese manufacturer BYD, allowing the model to achieve a combined range of up to 2,100 km.

This range will be achieved with the new 1.5-liter gasoline engine family, which Toyota aims to achieve a thermal efficiency of at least 46.06 percent, up from the Japanese manufacturer’s current Dynamic Force engine which only achieves a thermal efficiency of 41 percent at its peak, according to the Japanese publication.

The new petrol engine lineup will be 1.5-litres in displacement and will be offered in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. Although exact specifications have not been officially revealed, Best car website The new engine is expected to produce around 130 PS and 147 Nm in naturally aspirated form, 100 PS and 127 Nm in hybrid form, and around 180 PS and 225 Nm in turbocharged form.

The Japanese publication claims that the upcoming 1.5-liter turbocharged engine will serve in the 2.5-liter engine category and alludes to Toyota’s GA-K models equipped with engines fitting that description as RAV4, Vellfire/Alphard MPV and Crown.

Supposedly paired with BYD’s plug-in hybrid technology, the publication claims Toyota is aiming for a combined driving range of up to 2,100 km for the PHEV version of its upcoming models, as the BYD Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i have already achieved.

Present, Plug-in hybrid version of the fifth-generation Prius Equipped with a 13.6 kWh battery, allowing the PHEV to achieve a battery-only operating range of up to 105 km.

A digital rendering of the next-generation Corolla has depicted what the publication suggests the upcoming new model could look like, and the Touring (station wagon) rendered appears to have a sleek, low bonnet line that slopes down to meet the car’s A-pillar in a similar manner to the Fifth generation Prius launching in November 2022.
