E-invoicing: Puspakom says tax identification number must be provided for all transactions from July 25

Puspakom announced that from July 25, 2024, all customers who wish to conduct any vehicle inspection or payment at its branches or make online payment transactions via MyPuspakom will need to provide their tax identification number (TIN) as part of the process.

The motor vehicle inspection agency said that this is consistent with the implementation of electronic invoices (Electronic bill) system of the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), which aims to promote transparency in financial and tax matters and improve the country’s tax system. The first phase of the system’s implementation will begin on August 1.

TIN is a unique number issued by LHDN to individuals and businesses in Malaysia and is essentially a number assigned to your tax records to identify you. For individuals, this is your IG number, previously given the SG or OG identification prefix.

According to Puspakom, the mandatory information for individual customers is the MyKad (IC) number and TIN code, while corporate customers will have to provide the company registration number, SST number and TIN code.

The agency said customers must ensure they have a TIN before making an appointment on website. It added that this is necessary to ensure that all payment transactions can be processed accurately and efficiently by both it and the LHDN. Of course, the e-invoicing system will also apply to new car purchase.
