Supporters call on Olympic chefs to remove foie gras at 2024 Games

More than a month ago, Animal Equality’s global team launched a campaign to remove foie gras from the 2024 Olympic hospitality menu.

Foie gras farm

The process of producing foie gras involves force-feeding ducks and geese multiple times a day until their livers swell to ten times their natural size. Many animals bleed, gasp, tremble, and vomit during the process.

Foie gras, its supporters say, goes against the Olympic ethos of “responsibility” and “sustainability.” Despite more than 60% of the menu being plant-based or meat-free, organizers have allowed a dish so cruel that its production is illegal in more than a dozen countries.

In just a few weeks, Animal Equality advocates have:

  • More than 70,000 petition signatures have been collected globally calling on the Commission to remove foie gras from hospitality menus.
  • Two open letters have been sent, the latest signed by experts, celebrities and athletes.
  • Calling for support on social media, the organizers saw the strong level of public opposition to foie gras.

Animal Equality is now reaching out to chefs involved in hospitality packages, asking them to use their influence to create a kids’ menu.

Below are the names and social media accounts of these chefs. Please comment on their posts, stating your concerns about foie gras.

DUCK PROTECTION

Even before hatching from the egg, ducklings communicate with their close-knit family.

Protect these families by eating plants and eliminating animal products.
