Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series vs Nissan Patrol: Battle of the Specs

The Toyota land cruiser And Nissan Patrol have been a staple in the 4×4 world for many years, loved by Australians for their versatility and durability.

Since these cars share similar functions and excel in similar areas, their differences can be hard to spot at first glance. But dig a little deeper and you’ll find a world of difference here.

Both vehicles feature spacious interiors and rugged ladder-frame chassis designed to handle a variety of on- and off-road tasks with ease.

But which 4×4 icon comes out on top? Let’s lay out all the details on paper.

Price

The 2024 Toyota LandCruiser GR Sport is about $40,000 more expensive than the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior, but both have asking prices well above six figures.

The Nissan Patrol Warrior is the most expensive, off-road-focused version of the current model range, and has been given a series of heavy modifications in Melbourne by engineering firm Premcar, formerly known as Tickford.

The LandCruiser GR Sport is also the most off-road-focused version of the 300 Series, although it’s not the most expensive. Topping the range is the luxurious LandCruiser Sahara ZX, which starts at $145,791 before on-roads.

Nissan Patrol Warrior 2024 $105,160

Powertrain and efficiency

The Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 diesel engine, while the Nissan Patrol has an old-school 5.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol V8 under the bonnet.

Power is sent to all four wheels in both models. There’s a seven-speed automatic transmission in the Patrol and a 10-speed automatic in the LandCruiser.

The LandCruiser is rated as the more fuel-efficient of the two on paper, with a claimed fuel economy of 8.9L/100km. The Patrol also requires a minimum of 95 RON premium unleaded petrol.

In contrast, the LandCruiser 300 Series seats up to seven, depending on the version, although the GR Sport lacks a third row of seats and only seats five.

Toyota currently offers fixed-price servicing for the first 10 servicings on the LandCruiser for $400 each, which covers up to five years of warranty coverage. By contrast, Nissan offers fixed-price servicing for the first six servicings on the Patrol, covering six years.

Nissan also offers prepaid service plans for the Patrol with terms ranging from two to five services. These plans save you up to $302 compared to pay-as-you-go.
