Well-timedGreat Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has introduced GWM 300 Tank domestically, with the price announcement marking the vehicle’s official entry into the local market. The off-road SUV is sold here as a fully imported CBU model, priced at RM250,000Roadworthy, with a standard six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty.

As pointed out when it was Previewed in MarchThere is only one variant of the Tank 300 available for our market and it is powered by a 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 220 PS (217 hp or 162 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 3,600 rpm.

The car uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and part-time four-wheel drive, which includes 2H, 4H, 4L modes as well as electronically controlled front and rear differential locks.

In addition to the many available settings for different terrains/surfaces, the Tank 300 is also equipped with Crawl Control (automatically controls power and braking to keep the vehicle moving at a steady speed when going off-road) and a U-turn function, which when activated, locks the inside rear wheel so the vehicle can turn in tight spots.

Performance figures for the 2,155kg model include a top speed of 175km/h, while relevant off-road figures include a 33° approach and 34° departure angle, a ramp angle of 23.1°, a ground clearance of 224mm and a wading depth of up to 700mm.

In terms of design, this SUV is 4,760 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,903 mm high, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, visually characteristic of classic 4×4 vehicles with a boxy design and sturdy cladding.

Highlights include round LED headlights, each with a daytime running light strip running across it, as well as a swinging tailgate. The car rides on 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, wrapped in 265/60 Michelin Primacy HT tires.

Inside, you’ll find a dashboard that appears to be inspired by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, with an upright profile, turbine-like air vents, a pair of screens (a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen), and integrated grab handles. Further up, the center console houses a beefy-looking gear selector along with controls for the four-wheel drive system, electronic parking brake, and driver assistance systems.

Other features include automatic climate control (with rear vents), power front seats, Nappa leather upholstery, a nine-speaker Infinity audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a power moonroof, 64-color ambient lighting, dual-pane acoustic glass for the windshield/front windows, a wireless charging pad, and paddle shifters.

In terms of safety and driver assistance equipment, the Tank 300 is well equipped. In addition to front, side, and curtain airbags, the SUV is equipped with a full ADAS deck, with the list of available equipment including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic assist with brake intervention.

There are also front/rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system and a 360° surround view camera, and another novel feature is the transparent chassis view displayed on the center screen, convenient for observing hidden terrain when moving in rough terrain conditions.

There are four exterior colors for the Tank 300 model sold here, and these are the Dusk Orange featured on the model in these photos, Fossil Gray, Crystal Black, and Pearl White.

As a gesture of gratitude, GWM is offering the first 300 customers who register for the Tank 300 a free maintenance package for five years or 100,000 km (including labor and parts, applicable every 10,000 km or six months, whichever comes first) as well as Lifetime warranty on engine and transmission with no mileage limitAlthough the latter only applies to the first purchaser of the vehicle.

The first 300 customers to register will also receive the GWM x Thule Adventure Set, which includes a Thule voucher worth RM8,000 and a Thule Paramount backpack worth RM999.
