In a recent test of HagertyJason Cammisa ofLucid set an impressive 9.002 seconds at the Famoso racetrack in California. Wait, isn’t that just a little slower than the 8.99 seconds Dodge claims for the Demon 170? In real life, with a real driver behind the wheel, the Demon set a slower (but still shockingly fast) 9.721 seconds.
After each run, the electric supercar defeated the supercharged monster in classic style.
The magic of gasoline performance has not only been matched, but improved upon. At the track, anyway. When it comes to straight-line speed, all you need is a Lucid Air Sapphire and an empty stomach.
Perhaps even more interesting is how big the gap between these two cars is when the road surface is not “prepared” with VHT. Even with radial tires pulling the Mickey Thompson sticky (vs. Michelin PS4S Tires for Lucid’s Everyday Street Car), the Demon 170 couldn’t put the power to the ground on standard asphalt. By the end of the race, that meant the Demon 170 was two seconds slower than the Sapphire. The gap closed to VHT on the prepared track, with the Demon cutting 1.5 seconds off its lap time, but it wasn’t enough to catch America’s new straight-line speed king.
