Shell Recharge Launches Largest EV Charging Hub in Genting – DC Rates RM2.80/kWh, AC Rates RM1.30/kWh

Shell Recharge has launched the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging centre in Malaysia, located at the highest point of Resorts World Genting. The new EV charging centre marks Shell Recharge’s successful strategic partnership with Porsche Malaysia and Genting Malaysia as the company strives to become a key provider of EV connectivity solutions domestically and across borders.

The Genting High Performance Charging Station (HPC) was first announced in December last year and its launch also achieved another milestone when it was certified by the Malaysia Book of Records as the highest altitude EV charging station in the country at 1,865 metres above sea level.

“The completion of this record-breaking Shell Recharge HPC centre located at one of the highest elevations in Malaysia is a significant achievement in our efforts to build EV charging connectivity in the country. Two years ago, we opened the first Shell Recharge HPC charging point in Tangkak, Johor, followed by the announcement of the completion of seven HPC charging sites along the North-South Expressway eight months later,” said Seow Lee Ming, general manager, Shell Mobility, Malaysia.

“This latest milestone further reinforces our commitment to expanding innovative e-mobility solutions across the country, while ensuring speed, range and connectivity for electric vehicle drivers,” she continued, adding that more HPC hubs will soon be launched along the East Coast Highway to further expand the Shell Recharge network.

As promised by Shell Recharge, the Genting HPC hub has 10 bays, four of which are served by a pair of DC fast chargers (each with two CCS2 charging guns) capable of delivering up to 360 kW of charging power. Meanwhile, three AC chargers (each with two Type 2 charging guns) rated at 22 kW each serve the remaining six bays.

Operationally, each DC fast charger can deliver up to 360 kW of power when only one EV is plugged in, but the output power will be split into 270 kW and 90 kW when two EVs are charging at the same time.

The price for the 360kW DC fast charger at the Genting HPC centre is RM2.80 per kWh, and users are entitled to 15 minutes of idling once their EV is fully charged at no charge. After that, RM10 is charged for every additional 15 minutes, with a maximum charge per session of RM400. There is also a confirmation fee of RM10, which is waived if the slot is requested within 10 minutes.

If you purchase the ParkEasy Plus credit package, you will get a 15% discount on charging prices, which is RM2.35 per kWh. A bigger 40% discount is available for Shell Recharge Gold members, which not only reduces the price to RM1.65 per kWh but also reduces the waiting time fee (after the first 15 minutes of no charge) to RM6 per 15-minute block.

Porsche Taycan owners will receive an exclusive, complimentary three-year Shell Recharge Platinum membership, which will allow them to use a 360 kW DC fast charger at a rate of just RM0.80 per kWh. This membership level also further reduces the aforementioned idle time fee to RM5 per 15-minute block.

Gold and Platinum members also enjoy a longer booking period of 60 minutes before they are charged a confirmation fee, which drops to RM5 for Platinum. There are two tiers that come with an annual quote of 350 kWh.

For 22 kW AC chargers, a standard rate of RM1.30 per kWh applies to all, along with a validation fee of RM8 (free if charging is requested within 10 minutes) and an idling fee of RM2 every 30 minutes after the first 15 minutes are free.

Please note that the charging costs at HPC Genting are generally higher than other Shell Recharge Destination and HPC charging points. Here is a simple comparison.

Another announcement is ParkEasy’s exclusive promotion where users who top up a minimum of 100 ParkEasy credits from 15 July to 15 August this year will receive a Shell voucher worth RM30 (terms and conditions apply).

Ahead of the launch, a fleet of Taycans arrived at Resorts World Genting to demonstrate the high-speed charger. “Our first all-electric sports car has been a game-changer since its debut in 2019. Now, we are excited to once again step forward with Shell Malaysia and Genting Malaysia, enabling 360kW high-power charging for the first time in the country,” said Christopher Hunter, CEO of Sime Darby Auto Performance, representing Porsche Malaysia.
