Google Cloud wants to incorporate genAI into Indonesia’s SatuSehat

Google Cloud and the Indonesian Ministry of Health are exploring the application of synthetic AI for the national medical records platform SatuSehat.

Recently, organizations have collaborated to develop AI-based applications in the healthcare sector.

Putri Alam, Director of Government Relations and Public Policy at Google Indonesia, revealed during a recent Google event in Jakarta that one area within the healthcare sector they plan to integrate genAI is SatuSehat.

THE LARGER CONTEXT

As part of their collaboration, Google Cloud is providing the Indonesian government with a secure environment to test and further develop Google’s genAI models, including MedLM. Their The partnership hopes that besides enabling better access to health information, genAI will also drive more accurate diagnosis and treatment plans while ensuring data privacy and security of the patient.

MOH’s collaboration with Google Cloud expands from their existing partnership since 2022 to enhance data management and develop technology-based health services.

That same year, MOH redesigned its previous COVID-19 tracking app PeduliLindung to SatuSehat, which now serves as the platform for the digital transformation of the health system.

SatuSehat applies HL7 FHIR health data sharing standards to securely collect standardized patient data from healthcare providers. Last year, InterSystems expanded its IRIS for Health data management platform in Indonesia to ease compliance for healthcare providers in the country sharing data with SatuSehat.

Indonesians can now access their health records through the mobile version of SatuSehat. Besides lab test reports, many types of medical information are expected to soon be accessible on SatuSehat mobile devices, including radiology images like ultrasound, EKG, CT and MRI.

Meanwhile, as part of its digital transformation initiative, the Ministry of Health has sought to Measure the baseline digital maturity of provincial, district/city health services, hospitals and health service facilities. Based on results announced in March, 146 participating facilities scored an average score of 2.73 out of 5.00 while 10 provincial health agencies, 10 district/city health facilities and 10 hospitals achieved score of 4.52, is considered an “excellent” maturity level.
