Latest on the Suzuki Jimny’s waiting time in Australia

Talk to Car expertSuzuki Australia’s general manager of automotive, Michael Pachota, told us about the current waiting times for the popular Jimny 4×4:

Mr. Pachota noted that while the Jimny XL currently has shorter waiting times than the three-door model, the Japanese brand’s local division has managed to secure incremental production gains by transferring allocations from The India plant was initially expected later this year.

“We had a very fortunate, but unfortunately short-term, opportunity to get incremental production. [increases] in the first three months of production,” Mr. Pachota said Car expert.

“What I mean by incremental is we’re stealing the future in terms of production limits because we’re still trying to meet global demand because it’s so high.”

Mr. Pachota added that wait times for the five-door XL will return to four to six months “by the end of the year as early allocation times taper off.”

Suzuki’s local boss said inquiries and order rates for the Jimny range remain high and “continue to increase”, and that the mix of Jimny and Jimny XL versions is at 50:50 .

“I do expect the XL to really grow as a percentage of sales and even eat into three-door sales, but three-door sales are still very strong,” Mr. Pachota said.

As of April 30, 2024, there were 3037 new Suzuki Jimnys registered in Australia (an increase of 65.0%). Updated sales figures will be announced later this week, but this was Suzuki’s best-selling model in April with 862 registrations (up 142.8%).

For calendar year 2023, the short-supplied Jimny returned 5002 registrations Down Under, down 12.2% on the previous year and second in the Japanese brand’s lineup behind the Swift hatchback (6914 units ).
