Reports of smoke inside Pimlico Race Course following the May 17 Black-Eyed Susan Day card brought fire units to the Baltimore, Md., track on the eve of the Preakness Stakes (G1).
The building was evacuated, but a firefighter said it was a “minor incident” and nothing was on fire. Firefighters brought circulating fans into the building for additional ventilation.
According to a spokesperson for the track, a dryer on one of the lower levels where they dry linen began to smoke. The spokesperson added: “There was a bit of fog on the first floor, but this incident is not expected to have any impact on the May 18 Preakness Stakes (G1) card.”
