Dressing for the cold means breaking a lot of fun fashion: furry boots, thick coats and obnoxiously oversized scarves, (the list goes on…). But until very recently, skirts were noticeably missing from my winter wardrobe. Yes, stockings and tights do exist, but sometimes dealing with runs and scuffs leads to more trouble than relief. And honestly, neither of those match the insulation of actually wearing pants. Thank god, the widespread resurgence of maxi dresses has led me to better options.
Looking back, I never really gave them the credit they deserved — midi skirts have dominated my wardrobe since 2013. Now, I’m firmly on the long skirt train (for the most part). it’s Saint Laurent’s fault), my rotational winter outfit has changed dramatically. My November-March outfits are more than just pants and their variety. Team a long skirt with tights and knee-high boots and you have three times as much protection from the cold. The discomfort of cold feet while walking around the city is no longer a factor.
