The Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup Race 1 at Sepang did not disappoint, with a battle between the three riders to see Carter Thompson take the lead for his first ATC win, which later secured pole position. .
The Australian stopped a Gun Mie last corner attack, sending the Japanese driver down to third place, with Rei Wakamatsu taking second place in the finish line.
The big drama earlier in the race happened for the former Danish point leader Hakim as he tumbled out of the race lead, the driver still fine after a check at the Medical Center.
Buriram winner Veda Ega Pratama then tumbled as he struggled to start the fight to win, leaving two key players taking the points home from Saturday.
Thompson had a perfect start from the pole to take the lead, but the Danes quickly took the lead. He managed to create some space and appeared to be in control of the race before rushing off, leaving Thompson, Mie and Wakamatsu fighting for the win rather than just the fight.
That went all the way down to the last corner after Thompson took the lead in Round 1 in the final round, with Mie heading the lap out but then overtaking it again.
Thompson stepped back and hit the gas to the line, taking home the first win. Wakamatsu kept her dough dry in second place, and Mie was able to collect and take third place.

Shinya Ezawa was able to take the precious fourth place and with the lead, with some clear air for the Japanese rookie.
Behind was a group match won by Amon Odaki in fifth place, ahead of Marianos Nikolis, who finished sixth after a superb ride from his 20th that started right at the bottom of the net. Farish Hafiy and Hamad al-Sahouti took P7 and P8, close in pursuit.
Behind them, Reykat Fadillah took P9, with Diandra Trihardika and Farres Putra for close friends.
Cameron Swain finished in a distant 17th place, nearly 17 seconds ahead of 16th-placed Thanakorn Lakharn.
Thompson was sixth in the standings after the opening race, Nikolis 11th and Swain 18th.
