Two boys, 16 years old, drown in a lake in Northern Ireland | UK News
Police say two 16-year-old boys have died after a “tragic drowning accident” in Londonderry.
Officers and other emergency services were called to a pair of lakes, Lough Enagh, around 6:25 p.m. Monday.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said “some people have difficulty being in the water”.
One of the boys was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was taken to hospital but could not be saved.
The boy who died at the scene, in the Temple Road area of Derry, was pulled from the water following “extensive searches by the Foyle Search and Rescue Company and police divers”.
PSNI added: “Another male was taken to hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.
“Three other men were also at the scene, and while they were in shock, were not injured.”
While questions are continuing, officers “believe, at this stage, that this was a tragic drowning”.
