Shakur Stevenson wants an undisputed title against Joe Cordina
Shakur Stevenson has once again expressed his desire to fight Joe Cordina but only if it’s worth it to him.
The Unified Super Featherweight Champion is a guest on Good fight and presenter Kate Abdo asked him if facing off the new IBF title holder would be of interest.
“Cordina is definitely an interesting fight.”
“Cordina just fought in front of his hometown fans. I’d rather go get another belt and set up a big, big fight where we can fight for all the titles, that sort of thing.”
The champ left at 130lbs is Roger Gutierrez (WBA champion). Venezuelans defend their title first Hector Garcia who stunned Chris Colbert back in February beat the touted American on points. The Dominicans joined at the late announcement to replace Gutierrez, who withdrew from the main event due to a Covid-related issue.
Stevenson, who clearly doesn’t rate ‘The Kid’ says:
“I’d rather fight Gutierrez and then go fight Cordina.”
“He [Gutierrez] have to fight someone first and nine times out of ten [will] probably beat him. You never know. Honestly, I don’t think Gutierrez is that good. He will fight the one that ‘Lil B-Hop’ (Colbert) lost. “
“With Cordina, it will be a much bigger fight if we play him overseas in Wales.”
Follow his longtime friend Devin Haney conquers George Kambosos Jr in Australia to become the undisputed Lightweight Champion fueled Stevenson’s desire to fight overseas.
“I want to go there when it’s worth it. Haney got to Australia before 40,000 people, I want to go for that.”
Seeing Haney triumph not only pleased Stevenson but also improved his bank balance!
“I’ve known Devin since we were kids, so I’m very happy for Devin. I really put a lot of money into Devin! I’m glad it’s someone I know. “
Stevenson has confirmed to Kate Abdo that his next title defense will be in Newark, where he was born, against Robson Conceicao but nothing is official yet.
